This should have been a great tasting Pinot Noir from the Central Coast of California (Russian River Valley, Sonoma), but I wasn’t completely happy with how this wine (or this particular bottle) tasted.
Pinot Noirs are very sensitive to storage conditions and I should have known better when this wine was on sale. It was still close to $20, so fairly pricey. The wine itself has a nice light ruby color and has a nice fragrance.
This Pinot Noir is rich in berry and cherry flavors, is dry and has mild tannins. This is not a wine that will keep for a long time, so that could have been the reason that it didn’t taste as expected, since the bottle I tasted had some harsh peppery notes.
